It’s not the same as the bag- With foil, you will have to keep basting the turkey to keep it moist and remove the foil at the end to crisp the skin-
Many stores are open in the am so you may want to run out and get the right bags lol:)
Good luck and Happy Thanksgiving!
long before cooking bags were offered to comsumers, turkeys were cooked with foil covering the turkeys, so foil can be used. just need to baste the turkey more often…..
I use the heavy foil. Cut up oranges around outside of turkey, 3 or 4. 8 wedges each, and bake. Very nice flavor.
YES, lol.. what do you think ppl used b4 turkey bags?? yes ofcouse you can tin foil, i actually like tin foil better as i thnk it locks in the flavour better!!
happy cookn x
Of course you can. I’ve never known anyone who used bags for roasting a turkey. You don’t cook it IN foil. Put the turkey in the roasting pan and cover the pan well with the foil (preferably a heavy duty foil) sealing over the edges of the pan. After a while, start lifting the foil to baste the turkey, then cover again. The last 20-30 minutes of roasting, remove the foil to brown the skin. Generally the temperature for cooking a turkey is 325 deg. F. You should have nice drippings in the pan for a nice, rich gravy. Be sure to simmer the neck and other parts with onion and celery for stock to add to the roasting pan after you remove the turkey to make the gravy. Be sure to leave the skins on the onion for the stock mixture… the skins turn nice a dark and add a rich color to the stock. Remove meat, etc. and strain.
Happy Thanksgiving!!
The best way to cook a turkey is in the oven
